Rather than make three threads about the above title - I thought I would cram it into three parts of one thread.
Spec:
Intel Conroe E6600 (2.4Ghz)
Gigabyte DS4
GEIL DC 2GB (800Mhz) - (2x1GB)
Connect 3d XT1900XT 512MB
Creative X-Fi
1xDVD/RW
1xDVD ROM / CD/RW
and the hard drive set up:
74GB Raptor (16mb) -
Operating System & Games - Two Partitions -
OS Partition - 24.4GB - 8.25GB Used
Games Partition - 44.8GB - 20.8GB Used
320GB WD (16mb)
Everything Else (Applications, Music, Video etc)
Partition - 298GB - 11.3GB Used
1) XP Performance - I have been having annoyingly slow problems as of late. This seems to be when selecting anything from the start menu. For example, the calculator or notepad - If I open the start menu and select one of these - the start menu usually stays there for as long as it takes the calculator or notepad to load. This is turning out to be around 15-30 seconds.
If I choose the calculator and it takes around the above time to open. Then close it - then re-open it. It loads like it should (instantly).
It happens with some programs on different hard drives as well. i.e. Photoshop and is just really annoying.
Windows Media Player 11 (beta) takes an age to load anything up and close - but I'm not sure whether I can put this down to the beta factor, or not.
2) Zone Alarm - Two settings keep re-appearing on my Program Control > Program List - in the form of boxes. Like so:
I have deleted these from the list a few times - but they keep re-appearing, so I have "killed" them. Anything to worry about?
3) Partitioning - On my 320GB Drive I wish to install a 10GB partition or so, with Windows ME on it. What is the best way to go about this? I downloaded PartLogic (as found on the HD forums), but the disc wouldn't boot for some reason. Preferably a free solution.
Thanks.
