I'm just curious about this, rather than having a need to do it.
I was setting up a friends internet connection with a new router the other day - they're with a local wireless internet company and have an aerial on the side of their house to connect to the provider.
They have a D-Link wireless access point, the aerial from their house is connected to it instead of the standard aerial. This connects to the broadband socket on a Linksys router.
The access point is configured to connect to the wireless providers SSID, the router is setup to as a PPPoE connection with their username/password for the wireless company.
This all works fine, however, I was wondering if it was possible to do the same using XP without the need for an access point / router and just a wireless card?
As an example, using a laptop that's within range of the wireless transmitter would it be possible to connect to it and specify a username/password? I know you can create a PPPoE connection in XP (directly connecting the AP to the PC works fine like this) but I'm pretty sure it requires an ethernet connection which you wouldn't get with a wireless card.
Thanks
