Hi guys

I'm building a set of business PCs and am thinking of putting XP Pro on them.

I've only used Home up to now but because employees will be using the computers I am wanting to:

Connect them to the office network for file sharing but block the internet and email.

Give them only limited access to their machine and the network so they can't delete anything important or let loose a virus.

Am I right in thinking XP will allow me to set security like that?

I'm not really considering Vista at the moment as we use a lot of software applications and I can't risk one of them not working with Vista.

Many thanks

How many pc's? Domain server (print, file, excahnge) with strict GPO's.

If it's 5-6 PC's then Local Policy is the way forward, both allow you to set exactly what a user can and cannot do.

Thanks for the reply

Sorry I should have specified:

It will be for five PCs to begin with, adding potentially another three over the coming months, probably all running wirelessly.

I'm completely new with networking...I can connect two PCs and a laptop at home via ethernet cables but anything else is a steep learning curve for me so...erm....local policy...I'm looking at the Microsoft page of it but it doesn't seem too clear, is it part of XP Pro or something extra I need to get?
