Hi all.
Is it worth upgrading from Win XP to Win XP Pro x64 if using 4Gb of RAM in a new build.
Will all my old apps work, word, excel and the like, or are there specific versions to use with x64.
Machine is used mainly for gaming, with a little bit of accounts stuff.
Thanks in advance.

If you are looking at upgrading, then I would seriously consider Vista.

Vista Home Premium is the version to buy - or Business if needed Remote Desktop.

Cheers swinnie. I keep reading that XP is still the best way to go in terms of gaming (for now). And I`m really not interested in Vista`s fancy stuff, just want an OS that works and makes use of all 4gig of memory.

Vista Home Premium from what I`ve read. Sorted.

Just make sure you check you have all the drivers available for your hardware under Vista before you upgrade.
I got held back by a scanner which is old but better than the new stuff, yet not supported under Vista. Sticking with XP because of it...

i'm a keen gaming as well mate i went from xp pro to 64 then straight to vista 64 and its the best thing i've done as long as you have 4gb of ram you'll be fine... i have seen no difference between xp and vista. recomend you take up vista mate

im running xp 64bit and vista ultimate 64bit theres not much difference when gaming.

Rather annoyingly SP3 isn't out for XP 64bit & for some totally BS reason the latest msn live doesnt work under xp 64bit, I smell M$ trying to force poeple onto vista.

Doesnt affect me to much as vista seems a lot more stable now so im gonna delete XP64bit and install Arch linux in its place.

Go vista, buying XP is a waste of money now, unless you already own it!

Is vista a waste of money too if Windows 7 is out soon? is Win 7 out next year?

that's because 2003/xp64 had SP2 not that long ago, it's a totally different OS to XP.

why say 'm$' it looks dumb
