Hi there,

My PC refuses to start up Windows XP... I was using it perfectly fine, playing a random MMORPG (as you do) then I turned my computer off... When i tried to turn my computer backon windows got to the loading screen then jsut refused to load. It won't even run in safe mode... (using my laptop right now) Any idea of whats wrong and how i'm gonna fix it?

I'm not sure if my computer even came with an XP disc... Let's try to avoid pointing out that option for now.

have you got anything plugged into USB slots? I would take every USG device apart from Mouse and Keyboard and see what happens :)

Hard Drive Problem?

I used the diagnostic tool to check my Hard-drive to see if that was the problem (after removing all my USB devices except keyboard and mouse) and my Hard-drives failed with code - 7... whatever the hell that means... Any Ideas?

What software did you use to check your drive?

I'm guessing that you used a manufacturer specific tool? Either way the error code should be in the tool's documentation.

Progress... I guess

Ok... so i checked out what the diagnostic code meant. I'm pretty sure that it means that i need to re-install the drivers for my hard-drives... the thing is... to re-instal the drivers i need to run a tool inside windows.. and my copy of windows is on the hard-drive that's packed in... Well One of my freinds tried to help out, he gave me a copy of linux thats bootable from a disc to re-install the drivers, but when i tried to boot the linux from the disc that wouldnt even load either...

So, Progress, in the way that i'm closer to know what's wrong, but now I'm even mroe confused as to how to fix it.

Woo further progress~

I used a bootable disk of Windows XP and got a BSOD!

Hinting towards Hard-drive corruption...

so.. how do i go about nuking my HDs without an OS?

Well, while i was trying to fix this problem i got so ****** off that i actaully decided to phone tech support.. Anyway, they said that they couldnt fix it, and were sending me out a new HD. Well, I got my new HD, put it in my compy, and put in my new windows disk that was also supplied... I formatted the hard-drive, made a new partition and installed windows... but now my BIOS won't even recognise my new hard-drive... If you try to boot windows it tells you that you dont have a hard-drive... If you go into the BIOS it tells you it doesnt know what it is, if you put in the windows disk it tries to intall windows again.... but the worst thing is, when you try to install windows again it actually recognizes that windows is already installed.... meaning that it recognizes that my hard-drive exists and is working fine...

WTF.

Guessing they are Sata? Have you tried using different cables/headers to rule out mobo/wiring?

I have a very similar experience with mine and it turned out to be an overheating issue with the drives (scsi - hot, hot, hot!) - eventually got into safe mode and all was fine.

If your bios isn't picking either drive up though, you've got a more serious problem. Might be worth flashing to the latest bios just to rule out bios coruption as well?

Probably was the wiring

Yeah, I switched around the wires and the BIOS recognized it, got it up and running again...

Man... Feels weird having a PC with NOTHING on it though... My first intallation was my wireless connection, then firefox and an antivirus.

Starting from scratch... it almost feels good~
