I got hold of an old Philips Freeline LS1100 from work extremely cheap as its long discontinued. The idea was to give it to my ex as her current PC has gone ill and I dont really want to have to fix it.

The machine originally shipped with Windows XP Home Media Center. However, the so called PC 'expert' (and I use that term lightly) that we have instore had deleted the original partition on the drive that included the recovery data.

I didnt think this would be a problem. So I copied a friends Media Center 2005 disks asuming I would just be able to install it and use the original key that come on the side of the Freeline case.
However, during installation, at the point of putting in the key it insists that its an invalid key. At this point I was quite bemused but I own Windows XP on CD so thought I'd stick that on myself.
But yet again, upon reaching the key entering part it reports it as an invalid key once more.

Does anyone have any ideas why ? I cant imaging that I have to have the original XP MC2005 install that would have been in the recovery partition surely ??

Really dont want to have to pay £25 for the origial recovery media from the techguys (ergh) and wait upto 28 days for my efforts.

Does the sticker have OEM on it?

If so, then you can only install it using the OEM cd. If the sticker has a name on, the laptops make, then you need to get a cd from them. Retail CDs wont work with OEM keys.

Does your Xp professional CD Key work on another PC using the same CD?

Yup, tiss fine. I can only asume its something to do with the Philips machine requiring the original OS it shipped with. Although I cannot work out why this would be, after all, what happens to those that own a LS1100 that want to upgrade to Vista ?

so it doesn't let you use YOUR key on your disc on another pc? -what make is your pc? if its a dell cd or something then it'll probably only install on a dell...

Its a Philips Freeline LS1100. I believe it was made only for Curry's/Dixons/PC World but I'd be happy to be corrected. The only support you can get on it comes from thetechguys, who are part of the DSG group.

Even though I work for one of them they still want £25 for the recovery data on CD ... bloody pirates ! ;)

i highly doubt they have their own discs for xp then

you sure your xp is a proper oem or retail -you need to use your key for it if so..

If you have already paid for a liecence then just download a Corp. version of XP Pro. That should install fine with the key it comes with.
