XP repair not working

I decided to repair XP because windows explorer kept on crashing everytime I opened a folder.

So i've tried repairing but it keeps stalling at 34 minutes, when it says installing devices. It doesn't freeze because the XP description keeps changing and the green bar in the bottom right corner keeps moving.

I've tried 3 times letting each repair run for over an hour and it's still not working.

I really don't want to go through installing a fresh copy.

Any ideas of how to fix this?
 
i had the same problem a wile ago keep getting stuck on 34mins and in the end had to do a fresh install. you could try using another XP disk but dont hold your breath :(
 
Does it say what device it's doing when it stops progressing?
It might be possible to remove it, try repair again, then reinstall the device.

I'm just clutching at straws mind you, I've never had this problem myself.
 
No it doesn't say what device.

I tried five times at repairing and still no luck. It wouldn't alllow me to boot into safe mode either. So I did a full install.

Now after installing the GRAW demo windows says I have a win32 sasser virus.

It's not my day.

I'd say pull all the bits out and try it with barebones.

If that doesnt work then its time to backup and reformat. :)
