Hi guys :)

Looking to buying and installing the OEM version of XP onto my Acer Laptop but need one that has the SATA drivers....anyone know if they will be on the versions that OC sell? think they come with SP2

cheers

Hmmm, thanks for the reply, I'll try it . seems strightforward enough.

For the record though when did MS integrate the SATA drivers into XP?

There are no SATA drivers in any of the versions of XP. All that changed was that SATA controllers started to be able to operate in a legacy mode which allowed the standard IDE controller drivers to be used for the XP text mode setup.

yup

there's probably a few drivers in xp, but not many

ms should really have added a ton of them in SP3 imo.. lazy beggers

So there should be an option in the bios to change to legacy, then I assume, once changed, its the standard reinstall of xp?

I'll give that a bash at the weekend

Thanks guys for all the help.

yes, but not all motherboards have the option

might be 'legacy' or 'ide' mode for the sata controller in the bios
