Well the OS drive on my computer seems to be slowly packing in now, so have bough a replacement WD RE HD which is Sata-II and I figured why not give it a go. I've used nlite to slipstream all the gfx and mobo drivers onto the CD and in the BIOS I have the boot order set to CDROM, HD, HD and disabled the Old OS drive whilst installing XP. XP picks up the sata drivers fine, I partitioned the drive and got all the way through copying the files to the reboot bit, but when I then reboot it just gets through the boot sequence and displays the "press any key to boot from CD" which I don't, and then it boots from CD and starts the process again.

I've tried setting it to boot from HD only after the reboot but then it errors about the hal.dll file which I'm guessing is down to the setup not being completed. Looked in the boot sequence for the drives, and it's add in cards, Rocketraid array, HD. (otherwise I don't see my raid array in windows, only the controller card).

Anyone got any wisdom for me?

Is there a setting somewhere I've overlooked?

Mobo in question is a Gigabyte GA K8N-Pro Sli

Cheers

what motherboard is it?

there's probably a boot sequence that you can edit, select HDD0 or HDD1, or SATA1/2 or bootable add-in card

if there's a bootable add-in card sequence, then try editing that
to make things simpler, only have one cd drive, and just the hard drive you want windows on plugged in..

if its copied the files to the drive, then its definatly there somewhere, just need to find the right setting for it!

-edit, just read the first post again, do a full format of that drive and just create one ntfs partition.. -that hal.dll file thing seems to point to a bad boot.ini
