Hi
I'm being kind of impatient here but the finishing install of XP SP3 has been hanging here for roughly half an hour, maybe more. Just saying 'finishing installation', 'Details: Performing cleanup'.

Is this in any way normal. Spec in sig below, legit copy etc.

Any longer and I want to restart? Would that be a really bad idea? Thanks

The update.exe file is still running but using 0 CPU so presume nothing else will happen now. But it's not the type of install I want to get wrong...

I couln't take it anymore! I bit the bullet after 45 minutes. Rebooted, installed the other security updates and rebooted again. It all seems to be OK, I hope..

lucky. every time i've interrupted a service pack install i've had major issues.

I just couldn't see what it could have been doing for so long whilst not using any CPU. Plus is had installed, with cleanup left. I hope my impatience hasn't been my downfall though but it was fine the rest of the night

i tend to advise against installing SP's

slipstreaming and installing fresh tends to give happier results

Sometimes SP3 will fail as it completes and tries to run all services, this is due to something installed on the PC.

Simply solution, download SP3 and install in safe mode. ;)

Thanks for the input. Even though all is working fine and system properties says I'm running SP3, is there any point installing it again? I.e. via d/l in safe mode?

If it is installed then no.

I was on about Rigs where it simply sticks at "Running/Testing All Services" at end of install (may not be the exact wording). :)
