XP Service Pack 3 On The Way

After installing Vista the other time for like the 10th time i once again got reminded why i stick with xp lol

Exactly the same here. I won't be going near vista for at least another 6 months, until drivers mature and a SP is out for Vista itself.

i may end up skipping it all together!

dont get me wrong - if you like vista then hell thats up to you. But for myself - its naff, everything is so much effort. I dont want to try and make things work - i just want them to work. And until its been around a few years and every bit of software i own is updated and works flawlessly with it then im sticking with XP :)

And more importanly than anything

XP just works for me, perfectly. :)

each to their own and all that

likewise with vista for me. :p

i don't mess about fiddling with stuff - i wouldn't put up with having to do that either. i guess it's just luck of the draw with the combination hardware you have and the programs you use. :)

There must be 80+ hot fixes/updates once you install a clean SP2 XP system. Very much needed since Autopatcher is now discontinued.

Close....there were 79 when I did it on my brothers pc yesterday on the first round of updates.

It did another 4 the next time he switched it on lol.

Install XP SP2, then office 2k7, then visual studio.

:( not pretty - around 100 in total(inc optional, driver updates etc)! friggin madness! so sp2 would be good.

76 through Windows Update on some PCs I'm working on at the moment, but I've a batch file for 154 updates since SP2, obviously some which aren't needed in many cases, but that doesn't include the Media Center 2005 patches. That's a lot of patches to roll up.

Still, I use WSUS at work and have that batch file for any other systems I set up, so I'm in no hurry for SP3 either. :)

Lol takes 20 mins to install Vista a trained monkey could do it ,as to drivers guess you did not see these benchmarks http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/amd_nvidia_windows_vista_driver_performance_update/default.asp

Looking over the performance results, it’s clear to see that both AMD and NVIDIA’s Windows Vista drivers have come a long way in the past seven months. NVIDIA in particular has made tremendous strides with their latest Vista driver, SLI support is fully functional for all GeForce card owners and it scales well in most cases.

Fact is XP is getting long in the tooth,SP3 is a waste of time IMHO.FYI I have had no problems or gaming problems, and yes my backup XP PC is only used for updates, shows how well my Vista x64 is doing for gaming and general use.

Btw if you are happy with inferior XP that's fine ,just remember sooner or later you'll have to upgrade,XP won't be around forever.Still a lot of FUD around about Vista which is very sad.

I'll probably see the same comments when Vienna arrives from Vista users and maybe some die-hard XP users.
