Well, my XP Box is due for a clean up and an image needs to taken of a good clean install. Are there any SP3 issues to be aware of? And would you recommend me integrating that into my install disk with nLite.

Thanks

swinnie

Not had any issues with SP3 that I can think of. And I haven't integrated it into nLite XP yet. I just downloaded the full install and ran that. :)

I don't think nliting/slipstreaming is possible? Someone said there is a 500MB and 300MB version, but I can't find the former. Just use the 300MB one.

I didn't know that. Nliting a disc now. I don't need WMP 6 or 9 (XP) so is it safe to uninstall? I have WMP 11 which I install after the install, will 11 contain older WMV codecs, or do you still need WMP 6/9? About 17MB saving

keep WMP (esp 9)

anything in red can cause problems (with certain software) in general..

you need certain parts of WMp to install the newer ones

Right just created a Nlite SP3, done a fresh install. Didn't remove that much, just printer, tour, sounds, help, movie editor, OOBE, animated dog, modem drivers, accesability etc. Not much to effect a install. Installed fine except it requested kbd106.dll, microsoft ehome mcir 109 keyboard.

Well, I now have a fresh install with SP3 on. I bumped into a few errors a long the way...

If you install SP3 before installing Office or Windows Live Messenger they will not install, they fail part way through, for some strange reason.

Other than that it went swimmingly, smaller Windows Update download which was appreciated, as it only took 20 minutes to download necessary updates, rather than an 1 1/2 hours and 50 trillion updates.

Yeah, once I got all my Microsoft Apps installed I put SP3 on and used Windows Update and it is fine, I haven't noticed anything related to performance since installing SP3.

A SP3 disc can be slipstreamed using the /extract command on the sp3 exe onto a folder copy of the XP disc. Oh and then using the good old MS bootable disc img from the website. :)

This is on a fresh install of XP where I install from an actual SP2 disc and then use the SP3 update cd image from Microsoft to update to SP3.

Office 2007 installs fine, but the two problems i've noticed:

Windows Live *anything* won't install since the Windows Live Installer just breaks itself. It happens to everyone I think.

.Net doesn't get installed and then doesn't show up in Microsoft Update. Very strange and annoying since I need it for Paint.NET

Yeah, so that is a global issue then.

I had issues with installing Office, but mine was Office SBE 2003.
