Just wondered if anyone out there disables any services, if so which one's.

Is there any performance increase from disabling them?

I only play games and surf the net so don't really use most of the services.

It's mostly pretty pointless disabling services. you won't see any performance increase.

Well i disable a few.

Example, you can disable the Print Spooler if you don't use a printer..

I personally set Help & Support to manual and stop the service, its never been of any use when it comes to solving a problem.

Generally if i don't think i need a service i just stop it and set it to Manual, it should still start if its ever needed that way, but won't (shouldn't) start by Default.

Blackviper will point you in the right direction. There are loads of services that are useless and impact performance.

it's not windows processes that are a problem. it's all the 3rd party stuff you want to try and keep to a minimum.

And stuff like "Remote Registry" are just problems waiting to happen, TBH.

I wouldnt take his suggestions as being 100% for everyone though..... for a standalone PC they're proberly fine though.

I turned some off the other day and now the regularly used programs bit in the start menu is empty

Disabling unessacary services saved 200MB of RAM.
