hi

every now and then for some reason windows xp on my pc does not shutdown properly , it just stays on windows is shutting down message so i have to end up switching it off at the plug:confused:

its strange because it only does it every now and then but i would like to know if there is a solution?

cheers

Probably some background task that won't end. Perhaps see what you have running in the background and see if you can remove some items (via msconfig, etc). See if it still happens.

Also, perhaps a fresh install is needed. How long has it been since you last did one?

I'd be tempted to do one, I try to do one like every year or so. I like starting afresh as I know what to install, what not to install, etc. Plus I always download the latest version of stuff so it's all fresh and up-to-date. :)

Just depends on if you want to really. ;)

Like I say, maybes check your background processes and perhaps what services you have running and go from there really. http://www.blackviper.com/ is a good site for Service information.

thanks , i proberly want bother with the fresh install as , the pc runs fine apart from the odd shutdown issue , and hopefully soon i will get a new pc.

cheers
