i totally hate vista, so its either windows XP for compatability and reliability reasons or windows 7 x64 (i have no idea about).

i have both OS but and drivers for both, but i need to choose one that would serve me well in terms of reliability and software comatability as it will be used for office based work most of the time.

also i read somewhere that XP cant utlise 4gb so thats why i should to 7 64.

lappy is here tommorow so i have to get software and stuff ready :)

thanks

Windows 7 x64 all the way. The compatiability of Win 7 is just as good if not better than XP.

Any 64 bit OS will address more than 4GB of memory XP or otherwise.

damn, find that hard to believe on a new MS OS lasttime it was vista and it was an absolute pain in everyway. really hated that O.S and the last time i hated an O.S that much was win 98 :)

Why did you hate Vista?

It would be criminal to use XP on that laptop, but 7 is pretty similar to Vista.

Use 7

hey all

cheers for your comments, i just found out that medoin dont have WLAN driver for windows 7.

so my options is to either put up with vista until the driver is out or reformat and stick on windows xp?

after what you all told me i fancied doing 7 when the laptop is here tommorow. the usb wifi i have doesnt have a 7 driver either.

strangely though the guyi spoke to told me that there is a vista driver on the driver cd but i cant find that anywhere on the site or net. mmmmmmm

when i installed 7 on my Toshiba, i didn't need to manually install a single driver. it installed EVERYTHING automatically, either out of the box or through windows update.

ATI, are you sure it has no drivers?

I'd just suck it and see, W7 has found EVERY driver I've thrown at it so far, besides creative/asus soundcard drivers

Agree with the above. Installed Win7 64bit on two Inspiron laptops and the driver support was brilliant. Didn't need chipset, wifi, sound or anything. And anything that it didn't get on the actual install, Windows Update sorted those out.

ATI, it would probably be wise to explain why you hated Vista. Some of the minor annoyances where fixed in W7, but if you simply didn't like the interface then you might not like W7.

hey all

the wifi driver is:

Azurewave
WLAN wlanp86_e841xw7.exe
2006.0.0814.2009
Win 7 32bit/Win 7 64bit
Supply date 21.10.2009
Made downloads 2025

but they are still waiting for it apparently.

i didnt mind the interface, it was just the popups for everything as well as its speed of everything.

i didnt know windows 7 could do that, you see i want to take a chance but is just got some deadlines coming up and i need the net which is crucial for me.

so no wifi it would be a pain for me.

so what i was thinking was to put up with vista home edition for while till they get the driver sorted and then i'll upgrade.

i got everything i need apart from the wifi, but the thing that got me thinking was the fact there are no vista drivers but it ships with vista as well as the drivers on the cd.

and i,m not sure if vista drivers would work on it or not.

i dont really wanna spend time on it getting it all together then found out there is way to get the wifi.

Is the installed Vista 32-bit or 64-bit?

Vista drivers work fine in Win7, as long as it uses the same bit architecture.

Use both :D

I think it might be a bit early to go to Windows 7 just yet. Hardware and software companies are still making the adjustment with their products and drivers. Give it a month or two.

if you hate vista, i wouldn't bother with windows 7. it's pretty much the same except it looks prettier. oh and it doesn't have the media hating it. but you wouldn't be influenced by that, would you?

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with vista...I used it for 2 years i'm now on win7. Was far better than XP, unless you tried to run it on PCs built for windows 95...
