Any one running this as yet ???

I've got the candidate release on my laptop at the momment, from work, to test, part from that......

Just don't wanna stick it on my games machine yet

as with any major service pack release (beta or final), i'd never install it over the top of a working system. i'd always recommend a clean install or even better, create a slipstreamed xp sp3 cd. you only to have hang around forums like these around the time of a major service pack release to see how many tears this advice would save. :D

I've been running SP3 (RC) for a few weeks now.

Can't say I've noticed any improvement / loss of performance in any respect!

COD 4, Crysis etc seem to run well given my relatively low spec...

A64 3000+
2.5GB DDR400
Nforce 3 AGP Mobo
256mb 7600 gs.
:)

I just cant get the picture out of my head of a middle age trucker playing Crysis. It's like Spie doing ballet.

Well ok, i guess one who likes ballet wouldnt but then we could argue that their not male really. :D

anyone know from past updates whether much tends to change between release candidates and final release?
I want to do a complete xp re-install and wondered whether to wait or whether RC is close enough.

XP SP3 final release is not release until after Windows Server 2008 and Vista SP1 due in Q1 2008 --- just now its XP SP3 RC which like beta version same as Vista SP1 RC as well - final release is not yet until after Xmas...

Mozilla already release new Firefox 3 RC1 beta as it not full version yet until Q1 2008

so true....

Not sure what the big deal is; isnt it just basically all the patches we mostly have just packaged together? o_0

Rarely is that a practical option though and arguably won't result in anything "being better" (for lack of a better phrase).

As an example I got my Vista machine back in March and, to this day, I am still "reinstalling" things that my old PC had. For anyone that really uses their PC, formatting just isn't an option unless really really really needed.
