There's nothing in it that's going to do any damage, it's just all current security updates and some extras that have existed for a while but were optional to install.
as always, with something as large as a service pack update, if you value your windows install, backup the whole partition using something like ghost or acronis true image. there is just no accounting for what can happen. it will go wrong for a huge number of people. this is nothing new. service pack upgrades can be very painful experiences for large numbers of people (anybody remember these forums when sp2 came out? )
personally, i always like a clean install (preferably with slipstreamed media) when a major service pack comes out.
I installed SP3 on my PC and no problems at all. Going to properly reinstall XP when I finish Uni so I can get rid of the rubbish we have to install to access the network here.
Have installed it on a number of HP laptops (the HP bug is relevant to AMD processors only as far as I am aware) and they all exhibit the same problem after. Windows updates refuse to install. Wierd, but for now i just have to install SP2 and all the incrimental updates and ignore SP3.
