I’m rebuilding my PC soon and I want to install Windows XP so I have a dual boot system – Win 7/XP. In my guide to installing the OS it says I will need to install SP3 and I’ve got a link which takes me to the MS website where I get Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers

It says:

"DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download is now available on Windows Update."

Of course, if you go to Windows Update it wants do everything automatically for you and I can’t see any option to download SP3 so I can install it myself.

Can I just download and use that SP3 Network Installation Package?

The space where I rebuild my PC doesn’t have internet access so I need all the relevant software, patches and drivers on discs and USB sticks otherwise I could do it as I was building it.

Thanks

Yup, it's fine to download

Basically if it's just one pc, you end up downloading more than you need to (would be quicker to use Windows Update)

I always download the network version, so I've got it handy for the future

The end result is the same
