XP startup problem...

Hey guys, got a bit of a problem. When XP is starting up, after I've logged in, theres a bit of disk activity when the desktop appears and then a long pause of about a minute when nothing happens and I can't access anything. Finally the startup programs (antivirus etc) will load and I can get on with things. I've put up with it for a while becuase I have no idea whats causing it but its really starting to annoy me now. It went away for a while after I deleted my network bridge and switched off ICS but that could just be a coincidence. It also never happened before I fiddled around with services.msc and boot profiles.

If anyone can help me solve this I'd be very grateful.

Cheers.

You have tried start>run>msconfig>startup? and disabled unwanted programs in there right? If not all i've got is check your registry?

Thank you for the advice, unfortunately I already have my system configured to boot as fast as possible. Only NOD32 (antivirus) runs on startup. I think the problem could be to do with networking as the first things to show up in the taskbar after the pause are my LAN icons. I'll try bootvis anyway and see if it helps.
