Not sure what's going on here but it seems to have started with a forceware update. My PC was running smooth until i installed 186.18 drivers and then i had frequent lockups in game. Uninstalled and then tried the latest. Everything was going fine for a few days until tonight, where i had left myself idling on a DoD server and came back to a restarted PC. Event viewer showed NV4_Disp Infinite Loop.

At this point i removed my overclock to see if that might somehow be causing problems even though it's been stable for 6 months, and on the first rebooting after going back to default i noticed a strange pause on my bootup. Everything is fine until the loading scroll screen disappears. Where there used to be a 2-3 second black screen before being presented with the welcome screen, it's now between 15-20 seconds of black.

Removed the latest drivers and went back to my original ones and the problem persists. However i don't appear to be crashing in game any more.... time will tell on this as sometimes i could play for hours without my PC freezing, and other times it would freeze after 10mins.

Any ideas? What is happening just before the welcome screen appears?

Why did i update when everything was fine.:mad::mad:

Is it an integrated nVidia chipset by any chance? Or is it the one in your sig? It happened to me on my old nForce 2 motherboard as well - it would just hang the boot for ~ 1 minute. Thought it had actually died, so I checked the RAM. Took out 1 stick, to get it down to 512MB. Fixed. So I ordered new RAM. Put in new RAM. Broken. Left it for enough time to realise it was booting, used bootvis, saw it was the nvidia miniport driver.

I never got it fixed in the end, just ended up buying a discrete graphics card...

It's the one in my sig. Apart from the small hang where it appears it's doing something? My PC is all fine. Just played 40mins of Empire:TW with no issues.

Might try uninstalling the gfx drivers again, reboot into safe mode, then try driversweeper to see if that clears it up.

I don't mind this small pause tbh, as long as my games no longer crash. :D

@linktoinsanity: Think i'd prefer to format. Had a lot of problems with system restore in the past where it makes pretty much all apps fail to load with missing files etc. Hope Win7's is better than XP's. :D
