last week did the xp service pack 3 update seriously bricked machine! would not even let me re install windows so brought vista home upgrade.
would not go onto the sata drives known problem with asus a8n sli mb I have, tried every driver i could find no luck ended installing on a old ide drive fine first time. installed drivers and can see sata drives and copy data to them.
ghost and acronis will not let me disk copy to the sata drive as it will not see them.
any ideas?

so you reckon SP3 stopped you being able to install windows xp altogether..

elaborate...

what version of acronis? i assume it's 11.8101

extract the nvidia nforce 4 drivers to a usb stick and select the sata driver during install (vista)

tried the nforce 4 drivers

on the install ( and many others!) no luck others have had the same problem old os was not the problem as was installing on a brand new drive.

do not know

but kept getting bsod even in safe mode, not hardware related as all is working fine on a ide disk now. there is a fix on the ms site but did not work in my case. may just give up on vista and go back to xp just thought it was a sensible time to change.

did read your post

the re install was ontop of the existing os that has worked for me in the past, that did not work but a fresh install on a new drive did.

just format, then install?

always a good idea to do that, any files should be backed up anyway tbh
