XP update has taken 1 hour when shuttnig down.... has it crashed?

I've got a rig that it taking ages to shut down.... due to a windows update... is it ok to turn it off at the wall as I cannot tell if it has crashed or not....

FWIW, the num lock light still toggles....

I'd reboot it. It shouldn't be taking that long, even a service pack update shouldn't take that amount of time.
