I have Vista Ultimate and I'm in 2 mind about whether to put it on instead of XP...whats the pro's and con's with each one???

I cannot give you the pros & cons but I have just installed Vista Premium 64bit this evening and it was a doddle to do. I have to say that so far it has been a revelation, it feels instantly comfortable if that makes sense. Not had a problem with drivers etc and to be able to use all of my 4GB of ram is great.

I was dubious but I am glad I decided to try it, why not give it a go, you can always format and go with XP if you don't like it.

If you already have vista just stick it on. I don't know why people buy it then muddle about whether or not to install it.

Fair enough with the "should I get vista or stick with XP" type threads, but it's just silly to buy an OS you don't intend to install.

These threads are funny :D Though half a bottle of vodka helps...

Half of us scream its rubbish, the other half say it great.

Try it for yourself & decide what you prefer :)

This guy speaks the truth. You cant make a decision based on opinions from people here. Lots of haters and a few fanboys. If you like Vista, stay with it. If its really bugging you, the install XP and dual boot. Easy solution :)

Vista is better than XP by < -----------------------------------------------------------------------> this much.

I agree with NathanE (who tends to know what he is talking about when it comes to Windows :) )

I am a Mac user and have only used Windows at work. However, I have recently aquired a PeeCee lappy to faff about with at home (mainly Linux) but I decided to try Vista. I have a modest spec by todays standard (C2D, 1Gb and 945GM graphics) and it runs very well. In fact, as a Mac user where the low standards of Windows is unacceptable ( :p ) I have found Vista to be, well, rather good. No, I would say very good. It is certainly better than XP.

These threads are rather pointless. Search the forum or try both for yourself and see which you prefer. In my opinion XP is superior to Vista by far.

HP 32-bit is what I recommend ;)

Just make sure all your hardware has drivers/is compatible with Vista.

But have to agree that its much better. Almost a year now (for me) since installing it & can't go back nor stand using XP :)

vista is just as fast as xp, if not faster (in performance) and has lots of new features.

If I had to put a figure on it in general I would say Vista is about 30% faster than XP. In some cases where Superfetch really shines (read: loading Photoshop) it can be several hundred percent faster...

Yes the debate on whether Vista is "faster" than XP with games is still very much in full heat. But we are talking frames here and there, much of a muchness type of thing. Some games Vista wins, some games XP wins.

At the very least: Vista is the best workstation OS I have ever used.

I find Vista much nicer to use. Certainly has a few niggles (the Network and Sharing Centre is a good idea, just implemented horribly), but overall I find Vista very pleasant and refreshing to use. Would certainly never go back to XP, it feels very basic in comparison.

Been using it since July, for what it's worth.

Why buy Vista if you're not sure about installing it?

unless of course you didn't buy it.....

64 bit vista here on my HP notebook and its going great also, once you tweak the UAC and a few other issues its easily as quick as xp if not quicker, thats on my nc6320 T5600 Centrino duo with 2gig ram, new 7k200 120gb 7200 rpm 16mb cache Hitachi going in as soon as it arrives into our store dept.

Follow the tips on http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17792572&highlight=vista+tweak and your network copy speed etc is spot on and other little niggles like shutdown speeds will be sorted.
