hi guys i have loaded w7 on to a new h drive on my sons pc and it is running ok , my problem is that i made a backup of his xp system to an external h/drive as a bkf file , if i plug the external h/drive into his pc w7 refuses to open it , what can i do to retrieve his favorites- photos ?
i still have his original xp h/drive untouched so could i restore from there ?

a quick google...

NTBackup runs just fine on windows 7 64 bit. I imagine it would run on 32 bit - haven't tried it.

Copy 3 files from an xp installation into a folder on the Windows 7 machine:
ntbackup.exe
ntmsapi.dll
vssapi.dll

These files are located in c:\windows\system32

Run ntbackup.exe from the folder you created on the windows 7 machine.

Click on do not show this message again when warned that removable storage service is not running.

Click on OK

NTBackup starts up and runs just like on XP.

edit: because i'm feeling nice, i've uploaded the files here... :)
