is this possible.....
currently running XP and have never had any reason to change to Vista/ Win 7 etc, I now have a game I want to play that doesn't run on XP, so is it possible to install a newer version of windows on to this PC without disturbing XP?

edit - have 2 drives just now one 70gb, one 500gb, neither partitioned, XP is on the 70gb one

If you have enough spare space on the 500GB drive, you could shrink the size of the current partition to make space for a small partition for a new install of Windows. Then install onto the new partition, and you'll be able to select between the two OSs when you boot.

Surely it'd make more sense to just get to grips with a newer version of Windows? You can get Windows 8 for £25, there's really no better time to upgrade. You're going to have to eventually anyway, you can't keep using an outdated OS forever.

took the plunge earlier and everything is intact, only thing is there is about 30gb taken up on my c drive that i cant account for

the windows.old folder is about 30 and the windows folder is about 10, but as for the rest of it i have no idea, even if i search for all files above a certain size it only accounts for a few gigs
