My daughter came home with a new Pc a few weeks ago that had Vista Home premium on it but it was in Spanish (we live in spain) and couldn't be changed to English so i threw a spare copy of XP that i had on there.

Now I've just realised that the CPU on the PC is a 64 bit AMD x2 4000. will the fact that XP is on there make any difference to performance or will upgrading to a 64 bit version of Vita make much difference

32-bit XP on a 64-bit X2 will be fine. It will be no slower than 64-bit for desktop applications, although you won't be able to use more than 3GB RAM. Personally I'd do a Vista upgrade if it were possible as I think it's a much nicer OS, but there's nothing wrong with sticking to XP32.

If you've got 4Gb or more of RAM in there it will since you can address all of the memory. If not it won't make that much of a difference.

Depends if it came with 4GB RAM. Surely the manufacturer wouldn't be stupid enough to put 32-bit on a 4GB PC?

My uncle made the mistake of buying a "performance" rig from some unheard of online company, which came with 4GB of ram and WinXP - the PC was so unstable too, it was a top spec at the time but they didn't even test it to see if it worked ok!

Then the company went bust whilst he was trying to get them to sort it out lol!
