Im looking to reboot with a 64bit flavoured operating system.

1) Would switching from 32 to 64 bit compensate for loss of performance from vista or should I skip vista and stick with xp 64bit.

I have an AMD64 4000+ (Single core).Thanks in advance.

I don't think that the 64bit of XP is very well supported in terms of drivers and whatnot. Probably best to see what hardware you have and then decide whether it's best to stick to a 32bit version of XP or go to Vista (32bit or 64bit).

ok, skip 64bit xp then (printer wont work) what about performance loss going to vista 64bit from xp 32bit. What am I looking at here, 5, 10% maybe.
