I really need to get Xpadder and to a lesser extent Speedfan to run from when Windows 7 boots. I've gone into both apps and the option to run from Windows startup is ticked however when I boot my PC they don't run.

I've tried placeing a shortcut directly into the startup folder

There in the msconfig starup menu

But there I know there not running because a) expadder has been configured to allow me to use my gamepad as a mouse (to be used as an HTPC) and this doesn't work until I manually click on the executable. b) It's not in the task tray

c) It's not in listed in the task manager

I think it might be some sort of permissions issue to do with Windows UAC I've already set it to the 2nd lowest setting and I don't really want to turn off as it does a good job of keeping my PC safe.

Any suggestions?

it might be a UAC problem

You could create a custom task in the task scheduler to run each app everytime u login
make sure you set it to run with highest priveledges

It is a permissions issue, yes. Both apps require access to a hardware driver which in turn requires admin permissions.

You can check for an updated version that works properly on Windows 7 or just google how to work around it.

Thanks for the tips. I created a custom task in the scheduler but that didn't work so I went ahead and disabled UAC and now it works fine along with speedfan.

I'm going to go have a look and see if I can find a Windows 7 compatible version. Once again thank you.

Are you sure you edited the tab with the tick box saying highest privs ?

Good idea ... apart from him having to enter this admin password everytime it runs

I got an updated version of Xpadder now and it works just as I want it. I can have UAC enbaled and it starts with Windows. All I have to do now is get the software sorted out for my HTPC.
