Hi guys.

I hate my Xperia. I really do. It's having constant issues and freezing, starts playing my voice back to me midway through a call, and now, to top it all off, I can't even connect it to my frigging PC. Every time I connect via USB it keeps saying "Device has malfunctioned and not been recognized".

This phone isn't going to be alive much longer. When I get a replacement I'm seriously considering blowing it up and putting it on YouTube.

But I digress. Has anyone got any ideas on how to get this POS working?

Thanks.

Have you got another PC/laptop to try it on?

I have a similar issue - doesn't play nice with PC, but works fine on the laptop. No idea why. Tried various things to get it to work with no working results.

Yeah I have.

I'm really fed up with this phone. I posted a nice message on Sony's wall to display my appreciation:

"Hi there Sony.

I'm sure when you released the Xperia S, you thought "Ooh look, we could be on to something here, it looks amazing... That's Apple's entire marketing strategy, this could really sell!". I'm sure you thought it was a near perfect phone.

Well, you were wrong. The latest issue I've had with the phone, after the constant (at least 4-5 times a day) lockups, errors, and even playing my own voice back to me midway through a very important phone call, is that I can't seem to connect it to any PC in existence. It's not too much to ask to be able to use this (hideously expensive) paperweight as a USB stick, is it? So why, whenever I connect it to any PC (and I'm quite good with PCs) does it throw up all over itself like a scouser with Monday Withdrawal?

I mean, it's bad enough that I've paid more for a worse phone than my old one. It really is. I was drawn in by the marketing bull about "OMGZZZZ MASSIVE SHINY SCREEN DERP" and "OMGZZZZZZZZ ICE CREAM SANDWICH UPDATE DERP" (which made the phone even worse than Gingerbread), but I didn't expect the phone to be more broken than the average Englishman's grasp of foreign languages.

All I want to do is copy a song to my phone so I have something to listen to on the bus to Uni. Not that I would be able to listen to it properly, because not only is the phone so quiet I can barely hear it over a pin dropping through headphones, but it skips worse than a four year old after "Uncle's been to visit". Walkman? I'd like the phone to walk off a bloody cliff.

Thanks for taking my money in exchange for a paperweight. Next time, don't bother making a phone if you can't make it properly."

Mobile phones can be rather rage inducing when they don't work, I'd get a cheaply 2nd phone to use as backup so you can make and receive calls while you try and sort out your Sony

Slightly off-topic, but wasn't this phone added to AOSP with Sony's blessing a few months back?

What has actually happened off the back of this? Can we expect a "Nexus" build of Android to arrive for the device at some point in the future?

Can't decide if mine is broken, just terrible or both:

  • When using Face Unlock, it shows the pattern unlock first then quickly switches back to Face Unlock
  • The new Face Unlock bug (which started yesterday); it loads the Face Unlock but the screen is black as if the front camera is been covered. I either have to wait for ages or click emergency call and then go back to get pattern unlock
  • PowerAmp goes crazy when texting, it often switches from head phones to speaker phone when I sent a text
  • Most operations make PowerAmp stutter when playing music
  • Music stutters all the time even if I am not doing anything

I am due to send the phone back because of the yellow tint and half the screen has gone really dark but I get the impression the points above are just because they royally screwed up ICS (there are more, just can't remember them).

RE AOSP: The last news I saw, at the beginning of the month, was that Sony had released the proprietary binaries required to make it happen. I would put money on AOSP and/or Cyanogen bringing JB to the phone before Sony.
