So rooting a Sony means you lose Sony apps even if you just simply root to gain the ability to manage app backups (Titanium)?

Not at all. I think what the above poster was getting confused with unlocking the bootloader.

If you unlock the bootloader, you will wipe Sony's DRM keys so less access to things like the Mobile Bravia engine. A way round this is to backup the TA partition before unlocking the bootloader and then restore after.

There are methods available for rooting with a locked bootloader, although obviously no one has the KitKat Xperia Z2, so there are no known methods for rooting so far. Shouldn't be too long though before a solution turns up.

Wall of text and no pics in OP???!! :p

Less text more pics! :D

Yes, will include some later - haven't had a chance to yet! :D

I was on about flashing roms, I believe I'm correct as that's how I read all the posts on xda about it if I am wrong soz for the wrong info.

Yes for custom ROMs that is correct as in most cases you will need to unlock the bootloader. However there are methods to root without unlocking the bootloader.

I bought a Nillkin Tempered Glass Screen Protector for the Xperia Z2. Haven't had a chance to install it yet, but it cost around £10. You can find plenty on the bay.
