Just wondering what are peoples opinion on the top spec model with the QHD screen. I am in the market for a new laptop and its between this and an aorus X7.
I travel for work a lot and when bored I watch movies so that's why I would lean towards the X7 with the bigger screen. If I could get a 17'' with a high res screen that would suit but cant seem to find anything that is light and portable.

Seems a lot of cash just to watch movies, have you thought of a smaller FHD laptop instead, would be lighter and easier to cart around?

+1 to CEUOTC, 1080p is more then enough for Video, anything higher is more about getting sharper text then anything else really. I would go for a light fast 1080p laptop at 15", maybe the Samsung Series 9, or the XPS15 low res models or a Zenbook if they have 1080p 15" models.

Been using one of these for some work recently as I have to test my applications at various DPI scaling levels, and the 15" 3200x1800 screen is perfect for this as I can test 100%, 125%, 150% and 200% easily on it.

Actually found it really nice for working on, 3200x1800 and 125% scaling gives the same virtual resolution as a 2560x1440 display and is readable with my (pretty good eyesight), great for having documentation on one half of the screen and my IDE on the other.

Battery life isn't great though, around 3 hours with my (fairly heavy) usage, so not ideal if you're traveling and can't have it plugged in.

I use an xps 12 (Haswell 2 core i7 4500u) for work and light gaming (mainly WoW) as well as films etc. It is 1080p but works fantastically well and I get around 6-7 hours battery life. I also like the tablet function.

Don't get a high res screen for films (or games on that spec to be honest). High res screens are for detailed design, extensive use of desktop apps, coding etc, that's where you really reap the benefits.

Recently got one of these off the outlet for £600, which was too good to pass up. How long have you had yours and has it developed any image retention issues? Really like the design and build quality, but mine has some noticable image retention present. Likely to return because of it, which is a shame. I agree the tablet screen/flip is useful, and I use it a lot more than I expected to.

Hi eddyr. No image retention issues with mine (also similar price from the outlet) but I am getting an intermittently dropped wifi connection and no amount of driver fiddling/power setting changes fixes it. I think the network/wifi card needs replacing. It also doesn't seem to work with my widi receiver so I can't project to my large screen wirelessly. Other than that it is almost perfect.

Was it like that under Win8? Recall reading a few posts around the net where the jump to 8.1 introduced wifi issues for some. No dropouts to mine although reception doesn't seem the strongest for a laptop.
