Hey guys, i decided after over 2 years to take apart my (now fathers) xPS m1730 and give it a good clean (bought new thermal paste etc)

they are now basically overheating like crazy, but the diagnostics says there is nothing wrong with them :/

but since i am new to laptops, i followed a youtube guide to get the thing apart without any bother, now i have the GPU's apart and want your advice how i should go about cleaning them, here is a few pics ;

Compressed air and electronic solvent cleaner (can), you can get them both from a *(ah never knew that was banned :P)s if you have one close by.

*High street electronics store

I suggest not worrying about the paste, leave the heatsinks on and clean the carpet of dust on those heatsink fins, that's why it's cooking itself.

I know this thread is 3 months dead now but a few days ago Dell released a new bios update for the m1730 to finally address overheating (and dying) issues, with the new bios the system will control the fans to stop the GPU's getting too warm (as opposed to the current method of waiting till their 1 degree from maximum then cooling them down to normal and repeating the process)

NB: yes the system is louder, but it doesn't die
