I've got an old game called The Bard's Tale for pc. I'm currently using Windows 7 Ult 64-Bit and the installer for the game won't work on Windows 7 as it requires Windows Media Format 9 which is incompatible with Windows 7.

I've read on the internet that if the installer is ran on a Windows XP machine, then the files from that machine can be copied onto a Windows 7 machine and the game will run fine, as only the installer requires Windows Media Format 9.

I don't have a Windows XP Machine handy, so could someone please post a link to a guide on how to get a Virtual Machine working on my computer? It'd probably be easy to google and just run through all the links that come up, but at the moment I'm doing some scripting and am pre-occupied, so it'd be great to come check this thread in a couple of hours when I'm finished and hopefully someone will have found me a working and easy to use link :)

Chao outside!

Tried installing in compatibility mode for XP?

VirtualBox is a free and open source virtual environment to run an XP virtual machine in.
It doesn't have VMWare level support for hardware acceleration, however if it's an old game it should do just fine.

Just need a copy of XP to install on it.
