Finalyl decided to finish off the XR2... Put it in for Paint and Rusty bits sorted last weekend. Picked up the new engine for it tonight, a 1.8 Escort GTI engine :) Gonna make myself busy and hopefully get the engine in next weekend. Got a lot of wiring to go thru. Will get pics tomorrow

Escort GTI...is that a Zetec E?

From what I have read/heard, cams, exhaust and a little bit of porting means 160bhpish...Noice :)

Not exactly sure what Zetec model it is. But Gonna be putting cams and vernier in after i get it all up and running standard. Already got an exhaust got it, gonna get a worked head then look at aftermarket injection system. But i dotn wanna go too mad as i might make the car undriveable

Don't see the point of fitting an Escort GTi engine. A 2 litre Zetec is easier to get hold of, exactly the same dimensions and uses the same engine mountings.

2.0 Requires more work, more hassle and i picked up everything i need for £90....

Heh, anyways, slight update. Stripped off inlet manifold and found bit of water coming out of the inlet.. hmm Took out spark plugs and number 2 has some water in.. Fun. Sucked the water out (yuk), sprayed Anti Rust in it and turned it over.. Turns over nice.. Just worried the engines borked. Dont have the space to start a rebuild. Dont know what to do now. :(

You could just buy a 2.0 and swap the sump and bits over so it fits in. There's not that much you need to swap. Easier than a rebuild and the 2.0 files in an XR2 without any other mods!

Yea i know this, but tbh i cant be bothered with the hassle, i have a working area of 1 meter by 60cm and i plan to build a turbo zetec next year.

You might aswell just buy another 1.8 then I guess.

I would just get a regular one for cheap and slap in 2.0 cams and throttle body. 130bhp+.

And good idea on the zetec turbo. My bother had one that I used to map, it was utterly insane with all forged internals etc. Happy days! :D

Im gonna use the engine i got, just gonna chance it. Should be ok. I know what you guys are saying about the 2.0, but even if i stick with this engine and add cams, throttle bodies etc. Still gonna have enough power. Fact is i had this engine + bits i need cheap. If i didnt i would have probaly refitted the CVH.

Another update for ya all... Went to the body shop today to check on things.. and not a good sight:

They bent the door back, pushed it back, jacked it up, plonked it on bricks, stole my Escort GTI alloys, and left it.. Great. :( More gutted about the door than the wheels. Ah well, spray guy said he will sort it all for me and knock money off the bill. Just a bit gutting.

Bunch of savages...

Was that while stored at the bodyshop?

Yup. :( Ah well, crap happens.

Just been cleaning the gearbox up, what a nightmare, doing it by hand and WD40 :( Got half of it done, gonna invest in some degreaser and a pressure washer me thinks. List is growing of parts i need.. Getting a bit of a nightmare now lol

Stick it in the dishwasher, dude. :)

My mum threatened to kick me out the house for washing parts in the dishwasher once...

Tried cleaning the gearbox somemore.. but gave up.. Will put it in the parts wash tomorrow :p

Also penski, did you say £300 was including the bike throttle bodies?
