would this be capable at just cooling a cpu?

cpu in question is 6300 @ 3ghz, possibly with some new ram wanting to go higher.

Easily. Even a 120.1 would be fine for just a CPU. A 120.2 will give you options going forward though if you decide you want to cool your northbridge etc.

Having said that, my Q6600 and Northbridge are cooled by a Feser 120.1 Rad with a DDC 1-T Pro and XSPC top.
 
Swiftech offer some decent rads at a reasonable cost but as stated above, if you want the best performance thermochill is the way to go.
 
Double is fine, easy. You could go with single, which would be enough for CPU.
People run CPU + graphic card on double rads, no problem there...
 
well now with the saving in VAT may be able to push the boat out a bit and go for a thermochill.

Swiftech radiotors look very god value though.
 
XSPC rads are great, I used to cool my Q6600 and NB using a XSPC 120.2 rad.
