I've just purchased said tubing:

Its been suggested that this tubing breaks down and gunks your blocks up - a quick google and I cant see this being discussed. Is there any truth to this? Anyone here had it happen?

Cheers.

All soft tubing will start to leech contaminants more readily than hard tubing options although I couldnt make any comment as to that particular product being more of an issue than others.

I never had issues with soft tubing. Always used Mayhems Clear and EK. Only used XSPC ages ago, but haven’t found any issues. The only difference is that some will stain easier than others, as I noticed the Maybems stained within few days.
I believe that, at this point, most renowned brands won’t give you issues with plasticizer, unless is a defective batch.
If you want to make sure, go ZMT. Not for everyone’s taste, but is my go to when doing custom loop.

I think a lot will depend on what coolant your using all. I've used XSPC in the past and not had any issues other than staining over time. I use Mayhems tubing now as I find it's seem to be the most resisted to staining

Not all - epdm/zmt will not. Its used in server farms with a lifespan of 10+ yrs(with water temp 50 degrees+)

There was leaching in my recently decommioned loop.
However this did take 5 years to get to this point, and I never did a full coolant change.

Like anything that has fluid moving thru it, maintenance is key.

Thats pretty bad. Longest I've left my loop without a clean and on the same coolant is almost 3 years. That was with XSPC tubing and I think Feser One UV green coolant (don't think this is available any more) and to my surprise all block were spotless inside. Tubing had stained but thats to be expected.

I had a loop running Mayhems white pastel from April-15 to a couple of months ago.... when I took the loop apart there wasn't a smidge of any residue on any component or stuck in any cooling fins. They used to recommend the pastel fluids being changed a lot more frequently too.

This was not really planned... a pleasant surprise following years of laziness/disengagement with PC tinkering. I was expecting it to be a little gunky. It was with Primochill tubing if I recall. All you can do is check reviews and fluid guidance... and also keep an eye on cooling performance.
