Hey guys,

I've got a bit of spare time today so I'd thought I'd finally get round to setting up a bit of a media/web server on a spare HDD in my PC.

I started following this guide and downloaded the live CD of Xubuntu 7.04.

I booted into the LiveCD and tried installing the distro using the standard installer, however during installation I keep on getting this error:

The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed.

Does anybody know what this error is associated with partition wise and how to correct the problem?

I have tried disconnecting the all my other HDDs and using the GNOME partition editor but still no luck.

My Specs:

AMD64 X2 4400+ (@ 2.6Ghz)
HIS X1900XT 512Mb
2GB Corsair XMS TwinX
SATA Maxtor 250GB DiamondMax 10 (only spare HDD)

Thanks,

I've now installed FC7 and having a play around with that. I might see about trying to install Xubuntu again later now that I know I can definatley install some form of Linux on the HDD.

Hmm thanks for this heads up actually, think I'll give it a go for my webserver.

Any tips about the setup, or is it straight forward?

FC7 was a simple, straight forward setup. If you're setting up a web server then it will take a bit of exploring to get all the apps set up properly but its quite fun to do.

The only thing I did notice about FC7 was the file browser windows did sometimes require a force quit - which concerned me stability wise.

Hmm, I was thinking of doing a CLI web server with no gui. Wish that guide was in printable format :p

That's what I was originally planning, but then I thought I might as well get used to the workings of it - have a real play around and then decide if it was worth installing the CLI version.

Fair enough, do keep us posted please, I won't be setting up for at least a week due to work, so would be good to know what you find/feel.

Oh, hmm, I've thought of a problem: I have a wireless connection, a very poor one. Hows Xubuntu at installing/configuring that kinda thing with WEP?

Sure, I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm using a wired connection - but there is wireless support - you might need to do some digging around for some help though.
