Xubuntu vs Alternative Installation

The alternate cd is text only, meaning its harder to configure the install at first (e.g. choosing partitions etc.) the live cd (normal download) is a graphical interface so its easy to use. The increased RAM requirement is because it has to display the gui aswell as installing the OS

Even though the text based installation of the alternate disc is text based, it's has no command line in it at all so it's still easy to use IMO.

It still involves the use of selecting from lists and selecting ok/yes/continue, it even still has a wizard for partitioning the hard drive automatically like the LiveCD does. it's just not as "pretty" to save resources.

Yup, it's simply the Debian installer all the *buntus used up until 6.06. It's mainly for lower resource machines and is required if you have less than 200 MiB RAM.
