Ok I have a video file that is a 700 meg high quality Xvid. The audio is mp3. All I want is a nice simple (preferably free) way to convert the video to a dvdr video. I dont care about menus or anything extra, just the video.

I last night tried using nero vision, but the resulting video came out juttery, and has chapter devides every 15 mins that cause a few second pause in the video.

I used to use Nero Vision, but had problems with losing sync and it took a lot longer to transcode than WinAVI which I use now, although this isnt free either.

ok I remembered someone mentioning Tmpegenc before. I tried that a bit and the video is prefect so long as I keep aspect ratio etc. but the audio doesnt seam to work, tried mpeg2 mode and pcm. I even tried just coding audio, but nothing works. Any ideas?

Winavi - that good I'd buy it.

VSO ConvertXtoDVD is also superb and makes great menus.
I captured two old QUEEN videos yesterday and turned them into DVD's using VSO.

tried virtualdub but the audio is variable bitrate, so it complains lots about sync errors

then use virtual dub to fix it: open the file, go to video and set at 'direct stream copy', then go to audio and set 'full processing mode'
then save as avi (check that the audio is in sync - should be)
it should be ok to use in tmpgenc then.

WinAVI will do the job no hastle, without any splitting of the video or audio. Unfortunatly not free.

DVD Santa is the daddy imo... but again it aint free, but makes a great job of converting...... seemless
