Am I missing the point here. Have they made the right choice to get a woman to take over Yahoo?

Google will have "a problem" if it does not diversify its business, the head of Yahoo has told BBC News.

Carol Bartz said that Google would have to "do a lot more than search" and suggested that it would have to "grow a company the size of Yahoo every year".

Ms Bartz made the comments when asked if Yahoo's sprawling network of sites and services had a defined brand image.

Yahoo is one of the largest sites in the world with an audience of more than 200m, according to analysts Nielsen.

It competes with Google in the search market, but has only 17% of the US market, compared to Google's 65%, according to Comscore. Yahoo recently did a deal to use Microsoft's Bing to power searches on its sites.

"Google is going to have a problem because Google is only known for search," said Ms Bartz.

"It is only half our business; it's 99.9% of their business. They've got to find other things to do.

"Google has to grow a company the size of Yahoo every year to be interesting."

Has she really said those things - first things first - I though the majority of the revenue is made from adverts, which pays the way for the search engine. And Google is not only known for search - they're known for their mail (which Virgin Media, Sky and I think TalkTalk have implemented into their online mail), and more recently - the android platform. This must be pulling in some big bucks for them.

Should she have been allowed to release this statement?

They also have Chrome, and own YouTube among other things I'm sure.

I'd forgot that Yahoo still existed tbh :p.

What else do Yahoo do then? (other than search/mail)

Google are one of the most diverse online company's i can think of, they have there hand in pretty much any sort of online products.

I think we have an answer into why yahoo is loosing so badly when there chief exec is so misinformed!

Strange woman...

Google Earth, Maps, Mail, Code, Chrome, Books, Picasa, Docs, YouTube and many more...

Yahoo erm..err... Mail and Games.... and erm Searc...no wait, not anymore.

A friend of mine at work used Yahoo all the time, was his home page, but recently I saw him using Google so asked him why? he said 'Yahoo has changed something, I don't like it any more. As theheyes says, I don't tink I would notice if they disappeared.

Don't forget Yahoo questions, where stupid people can ask stupid things and get stupid answers from other stupid people.

Yahoo also own Flickr, probably the one thing of Yahoo's that I do use regularly, is is one of their more successful purchases.

Hmm I must admit a lot of searches bring up stuff from yahoo questions or answers whatever it's called, but they're never of any quality most of the time. For a company that big it does surprise me that I don't and never have used any of their services. Maybe some of their content ends up on other sites I use without realising.
