I have being having very irritating problems getting yahoo mail to work with Outlook recently. I Keep having problems connecting to the server.

I have tried changing my password and removing the account from outlook, and then re-installing it. This gave me access to my account via outlook for a short while, but I have returned to my computer after dinner to find it is not working again.

Has anyone else had similar problems with yahoo? any idea how to fix it? I do find yahoo a bit temperamental on mobile phones as well, i.e that i will suddenly lose the ability to access my emails.

One thing I came across whilst googling a way to fix the problem, was that you need a (paid for) yahoo plus account to use pop3. However I have also read that this only applied to US customers. I am pretty certain I have been accessing yahoo with POP3 in outlook for the last 3-4 years, and I have never had a yahoo plus account. Can anyone clarify this for me?

If anyone does use yahoo, which port settings do you use? I have a .co.uk account

you are right that .co.uk accounts supported pop3 on free accounts because i used it years ago. but i have no idea what it does nowadays as it's been so long.

if you log into webmail, you should find instructions on what settings to use, and make sure it's enabled etc.

I have it working again now, but it is irritatingly temperamental. My hotmail and gmail accounts have never had any problems.

My outlook account now has 3 copies of every email from yahoo, because I have removed and added back the yahoo account a couple of times!

outlook connector is only required for hotmail (or now outlook.com) accounts.

pop3 and imap are ancient standards and all decent email clients have supported them since the year dot.

Why not set it up as IMAP rather than POP??.

I've been using IMAP on my Free Yahoo mail (and BT Internet Mail) for years!!!

Make sure the Incoming is 'yahoo.com' and the outgoing is 'yahoo.co.uk' :)

Only has to odd wibble every now and then!, otherwise works just like Gmail :)

yahoo still suck though. fancy having the nerve to try and change for email client access in the first place.

say what you like about google ads in their gmail interface but they've always supported imap since day one for free.
