My boss had a pop up to upgrade his yahoo mail to a new version on Oct 4th, he clicked ok, it all worked ok or so he thought!

He has lost all his emails prior to oct 05, he is off on a tour down under in December which has been 3 years in the planning so he has lost a years worth of research.

Yahoo help desk were no help, all I can think of is try system restore tonight when he gets home, anybody out there with any other possible solutions.

Edit: he imports through Yahoo to outlook express, and it's the OE part thats lost the emails since upgrading.

Cheers

David

System restore when it works is great but if it is possible to backup an image before you attempt anything you can always go back to where you started.

When I need to recover important data I create a backup image using Acronis True Image. You can boot from the cd so you don't need to install it.

A friend had a laptop with 4000 emails and windows was corrupted when the drive had read errors so I used Acronis True Image to backup an image onto an external usb hard drive. It can take a while but I needed to be sure nothing was lost. :)

If you haven't used Acronis I would recommend testing on a non critical system first. i.e. not your bosses.

There are other imaging programs available Norton Ghost being one but the new version Ghost 12.0 won't let you create an image without installing it. Not ideal when you want to recover data.

I hope someone can come up with a solution as this does sound like a life or death not the normal "I like my desktop shorcuts and don't want to reinstall" post. :D

Please Note imaging isn't recovering your data it's more of a failsafe as the image will be exactly how your drive is now. If you mess up recovering the emails you can use use the image to go back try something else.
