In here and out there.
Hi there, my AV amp has started to develop a very strange power issue:
*In standby the Pure Direct light flickers dimly
*Short presses of the power button do not work, pressing the power button for a few seconds brings the unit online.
Everything else seems to be working ok, now I'm guessing that the PSU is beginning to reach the end of it's life.

Any ideas?
Cheers.

I've replaced the 22nf 630v Polypropylene capacitor at point C405 on the "SUB TRANS PCB" and the 10 year old RX-V650 is powering up properly again.

Hi,

I came across this post a few days ago as I was searching for a fix for my RX's power issue. Slightly different problem but ultimately the same result, no flickering lights with mine however and no attempt to turn on worked, even holding the power button in did nothing. Anyway, I ordered a genuine Yamaha replacement capacitor (Yamaha 22nF 630V Capacitor - part number WJ361800 (part number found during my research)) from sparedparts.com which arrived today. Having removed and replaced the capacitor (quite easy really as the capacitor is located (on mine) at the top of the unit on the SUB TRANS PCB at C405, visible when case is removed, no need to remove any boards etc.) I can now say that my RX is back to normal again! YEAHHHHH! Thanks for the tip and I registered just for this post to confirm that even now, 15 years on, this post is still helping people.
