Apologies as this might be a really stupid question about banana plugs..

Just bought this receiver:
http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/yamaha/rxv477/yama-rxv477-blk

And I assumed that these banana plugs would fit, but they don't!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IE9HMH8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

the AV receiver manual:

http://download.yamaha.com/api/asset/file/?language=en&site=uk.yamaha.com&asset_id=61958

Is shared with this model and the one above and references them, but doesn't tell me categorically whether it does or doesn't have them.

What am I missing? Are there different sizes of them?

I suspect that it has plastic inserts in the back of the terminals that can be removed.

^ This.

Use a screw to grip inside the plugs and pull them out. For Hi-Fi us, all banana plugs are the same diameter.

This amp does indeed have small plastic inserts in the end of the speaker terminals. As mentioned by Lucid just thread a small screw into the tiny hole in the centre and pull.

Cheers all - boy do I feel silly now.

Turns out they have small plastic inserts in them - pulled them out with a set of pliers and I can now insert my banana plugs :)

Aye, heaven forbid that in Europe we might mistake a banana plug socket for a mains socket and try to plug something in... Or indeed insert banana plugs into a mains socket!

We should have some kind of European directive that all new audio equipment shipped in the EU must have these evil sockets blanked off... Oh, hang on a minute.
