Hey all,

This morning I was riding to work as usual, got about 5 miles from my house, when suddenly my bike lost power, looked down at the dash and there were no lights (all digital display), I managed to pull in and tried to start the bike, but I couldn't get anything out of it. I can't get the dash to even flash on for a second. I thought, must be a dead battery or alternator? Tried to use the foot crank, which made the headlight (or at least head light dash icon) flash up for a second, but wouldn't start at all.

So I got a lift home with the battery, put it on charge (optimate 4) which immediately said the battery was full, went through all the checks and it confirmed the battery is in good health (only 2-3 months old anyway)

It looks like I'm going to go and walk the bike home, but I wondered if you guys had any ideas where to start looking? Starter motor/solenoid? The bike doesn't click or whirr or do anything when I turn the key which makes me think its not a relay.

Really baffled by this, the bike is an 05 model and has about 4.5k on the clocks, had a service last week (sprocket, chain, plug and oil) and has been running better than ever, now this!

Any help is appreciated, I've read a few horror stories about broken clutches when I had a look for people with similar problems.

Hope you can help!

Edit: Horn doesn't work, starter does NOTHING, no sounds, clicks, clunks or whirrs!

Look at the cheap things first. Fuses would be the first things I look at. I think there is usually a big 30amp one straight after the battery and then smaller ones for the various other bits. Check the main big fuse first.

Sounds like you could have a short somewhere to cause the fuse to go, if it has that is.

Cheers, I'll have a look at that. Not too sure on the locations of them though. Do they look like the blade type ones you find on the inside of a car? Im guessing the next thing after fuses/shorts would be starter motor and solenoid? I have my DAS at the end of the week, so not looking to keep the bike long. Don't wanna be hunking out cash on it!

A Yamaha what m8?.

Sorry my bad, its a XT125X 2005. I took Gixxer's advice and checked the inline fuse. Sure enough it was gone (10amp blade type) so I robbed one from my car, and sure enough the bike now turns on. I haven't tried turning it over, but have no reason to think it wont.

I have the trip computer on stopwatch mode to see if it shorts again while standing. I can't see any shorts/bare wires, is there any easy way of hunting them down?
