I am a total noob when it comes to Soundbars so I am hoping someone here with a lot more knowledge can give me some guidance?

I am looking at purchasing a soundbar and have been looking at the Yamaha YSP-2700 and YSP-1600. I should add at this point that I am living in Australia as I am anticipating someone suggesting the YSP-2500 but the 2500 seems to have pretty much disappeared from Australian shops.

I have a dedicated theatre room that is approx 5m x 3m with very little furniture in it. It is a rented property so can't go pulling carpets up, putting holes in walls etc. or I would probably be looking at a separates system. It needs to be "wife friendly" (no trailing wires etc.) which is why I am looking at soundbars. I was looking at an LG TIAB but having seen it in a shop I have gone off that idea.

All I want to do really is enhance the sound from my devices and, if possible, get some surround sound going. I will be connecting a 55"LG UHD 3D Smart TV, Odroid C2 (running Kodi), Foxtel box and an Optus Fetch box. At some point over the next couple of months the Foxtel box is coming out and may well be replaced by a games console (probably PS4).

The point I am trying to make is that I am wondering if the 2700 is overkill for what I need and that the 1600 will more than do the job? The only thing I have seen is that the 1600 only has 1 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out where the 2700 has 3 in/1 out - in my limited experience I don't know if this is going to be a problem getting all my devices connected?

I can get a 1600 for $949 (AUD) locally and after shopping around can get a 2700 for $1268 (AUD - delivered). Again, for what I want to do is it worth spending the extra $320? Obviously if there are any alternatives to these 2 that anyone recommends then budget is around $1300 tops (about 820 GBP at today's exchange rate)

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

...for the 1600, you'll need a 3 port (3in 1 out) hdmi switcher, there cheap from amazon.

How many HDMI ports does your TV have? The 1600's single HDMI out port has ARC so all audio from your TV is rerouted through it regardless of what source you have selected on the TV.

TV has 3 HDMI and 1 of those is marked as ARC as well

I just bought a YSP 2700 from John Lewis, got them to price match Richer Sounds at £649. Seems like a good price if anyone is interested.

Got mine from RS yesterday for £625 ;) hopefully get 3% Quidco at some point too so not bad at all!

Was considering the 1600 and a separate sub but it doesn't do DTS-HD MA or Dolby True HD decoding so plumped for the 2700 and am not regretting it one bit!

How comes RS sold it for £625? Can you haggle with them?

Loving the 2700.

Just got this in replacement for the Sony ht-st9 which kept breaking.

Picked it up from RS a couple of days a go.

OP. If your TV is HDR..I might be tempted by the 2700 if I was in to UHD players too as well and wanted the HD audio...

Otherwise stick with the 1600....although you lose the sub.
