I've brought the above home sub out of the cupboard after a few years and I'm trying to see if it still works, problem is I don't have a amp now as I sold it all a while back, my question is do I need to hook it to a amp to work ?
Take any ordinary phono lead. Plug one end in to either input on the sub. Turn on the power and turn down the sub volume. Take the free end of the phono lead. Place your finger so that it at touching both the centre pin and the ground ring. You're basically shorting the connection with your finger. You should hear a buzzing sound. If not, turn up the volume a little and try again.
There is no danger to you or the sub from doing this. There's no power in the cable except from the bio-electricity generated by your body. You won't damage the sub so long as you keep the volume down low and only touch for the short time required to establish a response.
