I've been approached by 2 companies to do some work for them, they want quotes for prices however I have no idea what to charge as it's both studio based work rather than my usual nightclubs or weddings... I can do the work for both companies without conflicts so it's a great opportunity for me.

The first has 40 products they want shooting and only from one angle, most of the images should take next to no processing either, I'd normally price myself based on hourly rate but I have no idea what time frame I'd be looking at here, or if I should even be pricing on products/photos rather than hourly, so any guidance would be appreciated.

The second is clothing working with models, it'll be regular work but they've given me no indication of how many photos they want, angles or anything so I guess I should be pricing on an hourly rate here?

Both companies are located close enough to not run up travel costs and the images will be for web use so equipment is the only overhead I can really think of.

Images are for commercial use so pricing should be more than simply an hourly rate. The images add value to the business and generate revenue.

EDIT - Don't know if it's just me but scrolling down your blog causes a very annoying flicker. :p

How big are the products and what sort of lighting setup are you using? If its just a boring white background "floating object" style photograph, it would take about 90 mins (tops) to do all 40 products if they are small. If its more complicated lighting setups or varying size products (size dependant lighting in other words), I'd probably allow 3 hours time instead for it.

Having them all taking from the same angle makes it fairly simple, especially if you take care in the work. Do you have an assistant that can help modify the lighting arrangement if the product size differs massively?

@Energize: Ok, so extending from that I guess I'm best to work out how much each image is worth the company? (Also, blog is fine, probably either your monitor or browser, I've had similar issues with older versions of Opera).

@James J: 40 images of similarly sized small products on a pure white background, lighting setup should be simple too.

I've tried finding local(ish) togs and their prices, but come up with next to nothing to compare to.

I'd say 90 mins then personally, 2 hours tops. Just depends how long it takes you to set up the lighting on the first shot lol.
