Anybody on this forum run a Yaris 1.4 diesel? Looking to change the girlfriends mini cooper S for one and wanted to know the following:

Cost to fill up tank
Average miles per full tank

:)

Yes and look here http://www.fuelly.com/driver/sovietspybob/yaris

Make sure its set to 'UK' in the top left hand corner

I have the first generation of this engine and its really lovely, mines only tuned to 75bhp the later ones are 90. But the later ones also having stuff like dual mass fly wheels and particle filters which i didn't want anything to do with! Its an all aluminium block aswell which is very unusual for a diesel which makes it super light which in turn really helps the economy

Diesel superminis are very nasty hateful things, the horrible din and vibrations dominate the cabin.

By contrast the petrol in the Yaris is smooth and quiet.

I do find the diesel yaris better to drive once on the go compared to the smaller 1.0/1.3 petrols as it has a lot more torque low down making the 50-70 on dual carriageways a lot easier. Also you're only doing something stupid like 2300rpm at 70 so you can't hear any engine noise when cruising, its all road noise which would be the same on any engined yaris

The 1.3 petrol engine is brilliant in the Yaris for what it is. It's got almost 90bhp IIRC and as far as small cars go it's very capable. I don't think 50MPG on a longer run is particularly difficult either. I'd go for this over the diesel version any day. Diesels are utterly pointless in little cars like this.

Yaris Mk1 & 2 are 42 litres or roughly 9 gallons

Personally use a 1.3 auto petrol Yaris myself and surprising responsive on the motorways.

I get about 320 miles on a tank , but i dont exactly excerise eco driving

Whats utterly pointless is stating long run economy figures with respect to a super mini. Its a town car, and the diesel will produce much higher urban figures than the petrol.

But so what if it does, you can hardly do 25k a year popping into town?

I don't know, urban environments see 35-40MPG with the 1.3 petrol Yaris, dropping to nearer 30 in heavy traffic. Stop-start traffic environments do not lend themselves well to the efficiency of any engine, be it a 1.3 diesel or a 6L V8 petrol. A low capacity diesel will be less flexible than a similar petrol, as well.

I never understand the point of derv super minis.

You have to do long trips to see the quoted economy yet if you are doing long trips often enough, you wouldn't buy a supermini.

They just seem like headline grabber "88MPG! only £8999" etc.

depends what you want really. If you just want massively cheap motoring they can be ideal as long as you don't care about big levels of comfort.

I must not be bothered by comfort as i commuted 20k a year in a teg and thought that was completely fine and anyone who said otherwise is a big pansy. So having a diesel yaris for my 80 miles a day doesn't even register to me as a bad idea because its costing me next to nothing to do.

I actually agree too , i do about 60 miles a day and its not that bad to be honest ;) but next year i will be getting a new car as the Yaris is getting a bit high on mileage. My MPG is somewhat lower than a diesel , but hell it is kinda fun to drive.

To be fair, I have a 1.3l petrol Yaris and have averaged 47mpg over the last ~10k with mainly commuting short distances and dual carriageway. If the Diesel can get almost another 20mpg on top of that, I'm sure I could live with a bit of vibration.
