Ok not so :D more :[

Guys, Have an issue....

Yesterday I drove to Cardiff from Bristol (this isnt the issue, but I can understand why some would thing it would be..) and all was fine.
I started leaving cardiff later in the day and all was fine.
A few miles into my return journey I decided to put £40 of diesel in (as I was heading up to north london).

After leaving cardiff and getting over the bridge, I started to notice a problem, the car felt lumpy. No loss of power at this point, happy to sit at 80 with the cruise on.
Now, I then hit a hill (anyone who does the M4 to bristol from Wales will know this hill). The car upped the revs to stay at 80 but not much happened.
So i planted my foot to see if i could get up the hill quicker, the car dropped to 4th and the revs hit 4000 then stopped, the power was just not there.
Its like it was being limited at 4000rpm for some reason.

Got to the top of the hill and onto a nice flat part and planted my foot again, same result, car would hit 4000rpm then feel like crap!

It had a new injector a couple of weeks ago and since has been running fine. Oil level is fine. Insp1 is about 8500 miles away (oil service done a few months ago).

Any suggestions as to what could be wrong?
Its odd that I only noticed the problem after putting some diesel in, could it be something as simple as crap diesel?

Any help would be appreciated as always :]

For info: the car made it to north london with no significant drop in economy, if that means anything!

Oh and yes, it was diesel, i've checked the receipt :D

Thanks.

Kul on e36coupe has recommended a gearbox reset, which I will try later (as have about 80miles to drive.

£50 for the part, 6 hours of labour at your dealer to fit it :p

The labour parts the problem really, if it would be something they would need the car for days rather than hours, then i would need to think about where I book the car into :/

problem has evolved....

it now wont start. turns over fine but the car wont actually start :/
AA on their way :(

The reason I'm not so sure its LPP is because you would have had a fair amount of diesel in the tank making the LPPs job almost pointless especially once moving. It would have been much more likely to die with 1/4 to half (or less) in the tank.

Hope you get it sorted anyway.

interesting, it has just over 1/4 of a tank now.
but then i only drove it 4 miles from work, it started at work, wont start out at home (started twice at work iirc).

Ok, well you can hear the pump and it is is getting something up (took the pipe off the filter and a little diesel was coming through).
Unable to get anything from the diagnostics, the AA stuff has nothing for diesels at all! Generic connection pickup up nothing.

Lucero - are you saying that putting say £20 of diesel in (which would put it back up to about 2/3rds), might temporarily sort the issue? (of course i would then need to keep it topped up)?

Going to have a look now for an Indy in north london - anyone have any recommendations? (though I can have the car towed wherever).

Nah, it wouldnt connect at all. was saying that it wasnt connecting.
no easy start :/

i can get AA to tow it anywhere, so it might as well goto a garage tbh, as thats where its gonna end up anyway!

bit too far to get to work from there.
it will be towed to Beemer Redeemer in Bristol, I'll then go work in cardiff for a few days while its being sorted :]

tried knocking the tank last night. got a small flow of fuel through it, nothing much though.

seriously tempted to grab some diesel on the way home tonight and put it in. it worked twice 4 miles before not working on the next start! not like that would have burned much.
would mean that it could be taken home tonight, much easier than being towed!

I was going to suggest taking it to Promotive off junction 28, but as you are already going to Bristol...

yeah, my old one went to promotive a few times, i live in bristol (when not in london) though, so this place is easier for me :]

while the ZT had a 2L BMW diesel engine, i think your talk of MGs is for another thread :p
